Simply put, there are two types of thermostats: mechanical and digital.
A mechanical thermostat sensor attaches to the evaporator plate and measure the temperature of the plate. These thermostats are available in temperature ranges suitable for either the refrigerator or the freezer, but not both from one dial.
A digital thermosat sensor measures the temperature of the air in your box, and therefore also offers a thermometer feature. They can regulate a full range of temperatures, from freezing to refrigeration, giving you complete control of your box temperature.
